Bookstore hosts writing workshop

Robrt Pela, a seasoned journalist and book editor, will facilitate an eight-week writing workshop tailored for aspiring authors at Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix. The workshop begins on September 21, running every Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. until November 9.

Titled “You Ought to Write a Book,” the program is designed specifically for those who have a story to share but may feel uncertain about how to start. Participants will delve into the nuances of traditional versus self-publishing, evaluating the benefits of each method. In addition to refining their story ideas, attendees will examine their motivations for writing and understand the importance of a solid narrative structure.

Fundamental skills such as story outlining and maintaining writing deadlines will be key components of the workshop. Various techniques to overcome writer’s block will be covered, along with the role of writers’ groups and the value of feedback from early readers. Furthermore, attendees will learn essential marketing strategies for their completed manuscripts—including how to craft a compelling book proposal, seek out literary agents, or consider self-publishing options.

Changing Hands Bookstore is located at 300 W. Camelback Road. Interested individuals can find further details and register for the workshop by visiting www.changinghands.com/upcoming-events.
