Restaurant owned by popular Valley chef damaged by fire

The Mexicano, a popular restaurant in Paradise Valley, was damaged by a kitchen fire on Saturday. The establishment is part of the Maggiore Group, owned by renowned Valley chef Joey Maggiore, who also runs Hash Kitchen and The Sicilian Butcher.

Authorities responded to the fire near 40th Street and Cactus Road once alerted by an emergency call. Fire trucks quickly arrived at the scene and took control of the fire using hoses to prevent it from spreading beyond the kitchen. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to contain flames above the oven area and stop them from reaching the attic.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Observations indicate that the blaze likely originated around the oven and stove. The Mexicano, known for its unique dishes such as a three-foot quesadilla and lava rock fajitas, first opened its doors in December 2021.

More details will be provided as the investigation continues.
