Traffic congestion stretched several miles on State Route 347 in Maricopa this morning following multiple crashes, including one serious incident involving a motorcyclist. The delays lasted for approximately five hours due to at least three separate accidents near Casa Blanca Road.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) received reports of the first crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at 8:28 a.m. Emergency responders from the Gila River Fire Department arrived within seven minutes to find the motorcyclist on the ground, wearing a helmet and holding his head.

A second collision occurred closer to the city limits, where a dark gray sedan had been rear-ended by a gray SUV in the northbound lanes. This incident compounded the traffic issues, causing backups extending three miles, with the left northbound lane closed by 8:30 a.m.

Earlier, around 4 a.m., a different accident had already reduced SR 347 to one lane near Casa Blanca Road. Consequently, drive times from the city center to Interstate 10 reached as high as 90 minutes.

According to DPS spokesperson Bart Graves, the injured motorcyclist was transported to Chandler Regional Medical Center with a broken ankle. Fortunately, all crashes were cleared by 9 a.m., allowing traffic to resume normal flow.
