Big Lots to close hundreds of locations across the country. Here are the Arizona stores expected to close.

Big Lots has revised its plan to close stores across the United States, significantly increasing the total number. Initially planning to close around 150 locations, the company now aims to shut down up to 315 stores, according to a late-July filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

As of Tuesday, nearly 300 stores are slated to close, predominantly in California, Washington, Florida, and Arizona. Out of Big Lots’ 34 stores in Arizona, 21 will be closed, many of which are holding closing sales.

Originally, in a June quarterly report, Big Lots projected closing about 40 stores. The company’s CEO, Bruce Thorn, cited a “pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high-ticket discretionary items” as a major factor for missed sales goals in Q1.

Thorn emphasized that the company’s current financial performance does not yet reflect their stronger business model, but he expects improvements in the latter half of the year.
