Biden Campaign Rebrands as ‘Harris for President’
As Vice President Harris looks to lock up the nomination, she is hitting the phones and making her case to Democrats in Congress.
WASHINGTON — President Biden’s campaign has formally changed its name to Harris for President, signaling that she is now the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. This move reflects Harris inheriting Biden’s political machinery, giving her a substantial head start.
Major Democratic organizations, including the Democratic National Committee, have updated their joint fundraising committees to support Harris’s candidacy. This administrative change underscores the party’s swift alignment behind her.
President Biden himself has encouraged his vast network of supporters to back the Harris campaign. In an email dispatched Sunday afternoon, Biden described selecting Harris as his running mate as the “best decision I’ve made.”
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden wrote, calling Democrats to unite and challenge Trump. “And if you’re with us, donate to her campaign,” he added.
Harris is actively engaging with Democratic lawmakers, bolstering her support within Congress. On Sunday, she spoke with several key figures, including Rep. Annie Kuster, who leads the New Democrat Coalition. Kuster endorsed Harris later in the day.
Harris rapidly gained endorsements from prominent caucuses. This swift consolidation of support has painted her as the clear favorite within the party.
Some Democrats have been cautious, not immediately declaring their support. However, a significant number are advocating for unity behind Harris to avoid prolonged internal conflicts following recent debates.
In contrast, Republican leaders have criticized Harris, associating her with the policies of the Biden administration. The political divide remains sharp.
Biden’s exit from the race occurred shortly after Donald Trump hosted a campaign rally in Michigan. This event featured his new running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, marking Trump’s public re-emergence after an assassination attempt.
