BBB seeks ‘ethical’ essays

High school students often face ethical dilemmas that test their integrity. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is shining a light on these important lessons through its Ethical Torch Essay Scholarship. This initiative not only acknowledges students’ resilience but also aims to inspire ethical behavior within the community.

According to BBB Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California, the scholarship recognizes students who have acted with integrity when facing moral challenges. “When students are empowered to use ethics for decision-making, they will be able to lead with integrity,” stated Faustine Chan, director of Business and Community Programs for BBB. This initiative aligns with the annual Torch Awards for Ethics, which honor companies that demonstrate outstanding integrity in their operations.

Eligible high school students in greater Arizona are invited to submit a 500-word essay reflecting on a significant personal experience or lesson related to ethical decision-making. Five winners will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 to aid in college expenses.

Applications are open until October 20, and winners will be announced during the BBB’s Torch Awards for Ethics celebration on November 19. For more information, visit the BBB’s scholarship website.

This year’s scholarship program is sponsored by Swiss America and the Valley of the Sun-Camelback Kiwanis Club.
