Bashas', Food City offering special discount for veterans

PHOENIX — Bashas’ grocery stores have announced a monthly 10% discount for retired and active-duty military personnel, effective September 3. This offer extends to service members and their families, applicable on the first Tuesday of each month, as well as during major holidays including Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veterans Day.

In addition, first responders such as police officers, firefighters, and paramedics can also take advantage of this discount. To qualify, individuals must present a military or veteran ID card at the point of sale.

The discount is valid at Bashas’, as well as at affiliated stores including Food City, AJ’s Fine Foods, Eddie’s Country Store, and Bashas’ Diné Markets. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to honor those who serve and protect the community.

Founded over 90 years ago in Arizona, Bashas’ was acquired by a California-based company in 2021, yet it continues to be a staple in the local grocery sector.

The Phoenix Metropolitan Area, commonly referred to as “The Valley,” is the largest in the Southwest, encompassing numerous major cities such as Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and Tempe. The Valley, with a population of 4,845,832 according to the 2020 U.S. Census, ranks as the 11th largest metropolitan area in the nation.

Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, is the fourth largest county in the United States by population, boasting 4,485,414 residents. Covering 9,224 square miles, it is larger than several U.S. states, including Rhode Island and Delaware. The county is also recognized for its extensive park system, comprising approximately 120,000 acres of open space with trails, nature centers, and campgrounds.

The county was named in honor of the Maricopa, or Piipaash, Native American Tribe, further emphasizing the region’s rich cultural history.
