Bahama Avenue Resort Requires ‘Super Majority’ Approval for Green Light
The Lake Havasu City Council is gearing up for a significant vote regarding a proposed resort on Bahama Avenue. A minimum of five councilmembers must support a major general plan amendment for the project to advance.
Arizona State Statute mandates that at least two-thirds of the governing body must approve any such amendment. This requirement emphasizes the importance of collective agreement among councilmembers.
Earlier in the year, the Lake Havasu City Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-3 against the amendment. However, recent revisions made by the developer may change the outcome at the council level. The upcoming meeting will first address the general plan amendment; if approved, the council will then contemplate a zoning change from Multiple Family (R-M) to Multiple Family/Planned Development (R-M/PD).
Currently, the site allows for approximately 280 residential units. The developer, Studio KDA, aims to create five four-story residential buildings, encompassing 172 units, alongside a two-story commercial and restaurant structure, a surf pool, and a lagoon.
The council will deliberate on this proposal at their next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend, with the meeting taking place at 92 Acoma Blvd.
