Aztec women topple GateWay in 4th straight shutout victory

The Pima Community College women’s soccer team achieved another milestone on Saturday, marking their 11th double-digit win season in the past 14 years. They celebrated this feat by decisively defeating GateWay Community College, who have yet to secure a win this season, at the West Campus Aztec Field.

Ranked No. 9, the Aztecs showcased their dominance in a commanding 5-0 victory, extending their impressive run to four consecutive shutouts, totaling eight such wins this season. The match highlighted the versatility of the team as five different players found the back of the net.

Solaris Graves, a sophomore from Ironwood Ridge High School, opened the scoring in the 13th minute, with assistance from teammate Neveah Covarrubias. Camila Razcon, also a sophomore from Marana High School, played a pivotal role with two assists; she set up Lizzie Walker for the second goal in the 21st minute, elevating the score to 2-0.

Further contributions came from Jessica Alvarez, who netted the Aztecs’ third goal in the 26th minute, followed by Kassandra Vasquez, who scored in the 37th minute after being assisted by Razcon, bringing the score to 4-0 before halftime. Uriah Burrell capped off the scoring with her goal in the 67th minute.

Pima’s defense was impenetrable, with the Aztecs recording 15 shots on goal while the Geckos failed to register any attempts. Sophomore goalkeeper Jasmin Delgado did not need to make any saves during the match.

The Aztecs have a scrimmage scheduled against Park University on Monday at 6 p.m., before returning to ACCAC conference play on Saturday against Glendale Community College.
