In a flurry of executive actions during President Trump’s first 100 days, efforts have intensified to dismantle what critics call “woke ideologies” and the Green New Deal framework. The U.S. Department of Transportation, spearheaded by Secretary Sean Duffy, is focusing on revoking funding from city projects promoting road diets and eco-friendly infrastructure. This shift has sparked outrage among left-leaning activists, particularly with the removal of “Complete Streets” resources from the USDOT website, highlighting a pivot towards prioritizing vehicular travel.

In line with Trump’s commitment to boost American energy independence, the administration has rolled back stringent greenhouse gas regulations and is pushing for the reopening of both existing and new coal facilities. Recently, this agenda gained traction with the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill” in the House, which aims to eliminate various subsidies tied to the Inflation Reduction Act. Proponents assert these measures are vital for restoring practical and pro-American policies.

Amid these national changes, Prescott, Arizona, seems an unlikely candidate for such shifts. With registered Republicans outnumbering Democrats three to one, the city embodies a conservative stronghold. However, the latest proposed General Plan raises concerns among local conservatives. Arizona law mandates each municipality to adopt a comprehensive General Plan addressing community growth, encompassing essential aspects like transportation, land use, and energy. Critics argue that this necessary document is being leveraged by city officials to embed progressive ideologies and environmental targets into local planning.
