AZ Senate Majority Leader Applauds Trump’s FDA Commissioner Confirmation

By Matthew Holloway |

Arizona Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp expressed strong support for the newly confirmed U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, Dr. Marty Makary. Shamp, who has actively championed various health-related initiatives, praised Makary’s appointment as a significant step toward improving public health.

In alignment with her “Make Arizona Healthy Again” Agenda—congruent with the national “Make America Healthy Again” initiative from the Trump administration—Shamp aims to address critical issues within the healthcare system. The Arizona Senate GOP noted her experience as a perioperative nurse, highlighting her awareness of corruption and misconduct affecting healthcare delivery for Arizonans.

“It’s time to clean up public health in our country, and Dr. Makary is the right man for the job,” Shamp stated. She acknowledged Makary’s extensive experience as a surgeon, emphasizing his potential to support the goals of President Trump and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in enhancing national health standards.

Shamp further critiqued the state of the American food supply, pointing out concerns about toxins and overmedication. “I look forward to seeing his great work at the FDA to address these critical issues,” she remarked, reinforcing her commitment to state legislation aligned with these national health initiatives.

Significantly, Shamp has introduced legislation aimed at protecting children and teens from ‘gender transition procedures,’ laying the groundwork for possible medical malpractice claims. In addition, she co-sponsored a bill aimed at banning ultra-processed foods with harmful additives from public school meals.

Her continued efforts in healthcare reform include bills designed to limit insurance company interference in the doctor-patient relationship, protect state health regulatory boards from anti-trust challenges, and restrict the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for purchasing soda.
