ASU men's basketball to play in 2025 Maui Invitational

Basketball fans in Arizona can look forward to spending Thanksgiving 2025 in Hawaii as the Arizona State Sun Devils have been selected to participate in the Maui Invitational.

TEMPE, Ariz. — This marks the sixth occasion in the program’s history that ASU’s men’s basketball team has earned a spot in this prestigious early-season tournament. The event is scheduled to take place at the Lahaina Civic Center from November 24 to 26, 2025, making it the first appearance for the Sun Devils since 2007.

Competing alongside ASU will be notable teams including North Carolina State, who reached the Final Four last season, as well as Seton Hall, Texas, UNLV, USC, Washington State, and tournament host Chaminade.

Previously, ASU has participated in Maui five times, with an overall record of 9-6. The Sun Devils clinched the title in 1994, guided by celebrated head coach Bill Frieder.

The Maui Invitational, a staple since 1984, typically features elite teams from across the nation. The upcoming 2024 tournament field includes defending champions UConn, Memphis, Colorado, Michigan State, Auburn, Iowa State, Dayton, and North Carolina. All but Memphis participated in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

In another development, ASU will kick off the 2024 season by hosting Idaho State at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Fans will be eager to see how the team performs following their Maui Invitational selection.
