Armed Bandits in Waddell Neighborhood Steal Truck with AK-47s
In Waddell, Arizona, car thieves executed a swift and brazen heist targeting a local resident’s new Chevy truck, stolen in less than two minutes early Wednesday morning.
Michael Florant, the truck’s owner, had fallen asleep unaware that his locked vehicle was about to be compromised. According to him, the burglars gained entry by “jimmying” the lock, utilized a tablet to start the engine, and drove away shortly before 2:30 a.m.
Security footage captured the incident, which showed two masked individuals emerging from a white Camaro. One suspect brandished an AK-47, standing guard outside as the other broke into Florant’s truck.
Reflecting on the moment, Florant remarked, “I’d be dead because, you know, unlike the movies, bullets don’t bounce off houses.” His concern highlights the potential danger of confronting armed criminals, even in a neighborhood he deemed safe.
The theft is believed to be part of a larger trend, with Florant suggesting that the same group might be responsible for similar incidents statewide. “You don’t ever think it would happen to you,” he noted, expressing frustration over the vulnerability that can affect anyone.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Division is currently investigating this theft alongside another incident that occurred nearby. Authorities are examining whether these crimes are connected to a more extensive organized crime network or if they are the work of opportunistic criminals.
Floran emphasized his belief that the thieves operate with precision and professionalism. “These guys are organized. They’re not worried about getting caught,” he stated, amplifying the urgency for heightened law enforcement involvement.
In light of the circumstances, he is advocating for federal attention to aid the investigation. Despite the loss of his truck, which he considers unlikely to be recovered, he argues for the necessity of broader support from agencies such as the FBI or ATF.
