Arkenstone Set to Dazzle Sedona Performing Arts Center on December 13
The Sedona Performing Arts Center is set to host a festive celebration with composer David Arkenstone returning for his holiday show, “A Winter’s Eve with David Arkenstone & Friends,” on Friday, December 13, at 7 p.m. This appearance comes after a strong public demand for his return.
Patrick Schweiss, Executive Director of the Sedona International Film Festival (SIFF), expressed enthusiasm for the event, noting that Arkenstone’s previous performance was a crowd favorite. “His music is an incredible blend of styles, reminiscent of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller. It’s a unique and mind-blowing experience,” Schweiss said.
Arkenstone, a seasoned musician, draws inspiration from a wide range of influences. He noted, “My background spans classical music, The Beatles, and progressive rock. I aim to fuse these genres in my work.” Critics have labeled his style as “cinematic New Age rock,” a fitting description for his innovative compositions.
This holiday tour marks Arkenstone’s third consecutive year performing seasonal music. Audiences can expect to hear beloved holiday classics such as “I Saw Three Ships” alongside unique pieces like “Bottom of The Punch Bowl,” which showcases his eclectic style.
Arkenstone began his musical journey with piano lessons and school bands. His solo career took off in 1987 with the release of “Valley in the Clouds.” He has also contributed to soundtracks for popular video games, including “World of Warcraft.”
His latest album, “Quest for the Runestone,” released earlier this year, symbolizes a creative evolution. “I wanted to challenge myself and explore new ideas,” he described. The album employs an extensive range of instruments, showcasing a more ambitious narrative structure.
“Using Dolby Atmos for mixing was a remarkable experience,” Arkenstone remarked. He plans to include tracks from both his new album and holiday albums, bringing diverse sounds to the stage.
Following Arkenstone’s performance, SIFF will welcome the Christmas Tenors on Saturday, December 21, at 7 p.m. This concert features vocalists Matthew Holter, Alberto Ranjel, Chach Snook, and Dennis Tamblyn, promising to immerse attendees in the holiday spirit.
“Sedona has an inherent beauty and energy that makes performing here unique,” Arkenstone noted. “It’s one of the special stops on my tour.”
