Arizonans Voice Strong Opinions on Biden’s Surprising Exit
President Joe Biden announced he will no longer seek reelection in November. Here’s how Arizonans are reacting.
PHOENIX — President Joe Biden surprised the nation on Sunday morning by announcing he will not seek reelection in the 2024 Presidential race. This development follows weeks of speculation and pressure from political allies and advisors.
Arizona Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs lauded Biden’s decision, calling him “the embodiment of a public servant” and highlighting his lifelong commitment to the American people.
“While the timing of this announcement may be unprecedented, our democracy thrives on thorough debate and deliberation,” Hobbs stated. She emphasized that Biden’s decision is in line with democratic principles.
Conor O’Callaghan, a Democratic congressional candidate in Arizona, expressed unwavering support for Biden. “He has served this country with dignity and grace, guiding us through turbulent times,” O’Callaghan commented.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego thanked Biden for his contributions, especially in impacting lives positively in Arizona. “He will be remembered as one of the most effective presidents of our era,” she remarked.
On the other side of the political spectrum, Senate candidate Kari Lake critiqued Biden’s move. “If Joe Biden is not up for running for office, he’s not up for running the country,” Lake stated.
