Arizona Supreme Court Greenlights Secure The Border Act for November Vote

In a significant development, the Arizona Supreme Court affirmed the inclusion of a contentious border security measure on the ballot for November’s General Election. The court’s ruling supports HCR 2060, following extensive legislative and legal debates surrounding the proposal.

The Supreme Court stated that it “unanimously agrees with the superior court that Appellants have not met their burden to overcome the strong presumption that HCR 2060 is constitutional.” This decision allows voters to make a choice about border security, which has become a divisive issue in Arizona.

The Arizona Senate Republicans responded swiftly to the ruling, expressing their approval on social media. They declared it a setback for Democrats and special interests opposing the Secure the Border Act, viewing the decision as a triumph for Arizona citizens who wish to influence border security measures.

Arizona State Senator Janae Shamp emphasized the importance of the upcoming vote, stating, “The People of AZ will decide November 5th!” Her remarks highlight the anticipation surrounding the ballot measure.

Meanwhile, Republican State Representative John Gillette also praised the decision. He remarked, “Great news. The people have a say on how we can deal with our open border invasion, despite the vetoed Bills and the lack of federal leadership.” His comments reflect the Republican stance on border issues and the public’s role in shaping policies.

HCR 2060 will be presented to voters as Proposition 314. If approved, it aims to empower local law enforcement with increased resources to address the challenges stemming from the escalating border crisis.
