PARIS, France — Several athletes with Arizona connections are making their mark in Olympic events during the fifth full day of competition in Paris.
Here’s a look at who to watch on Wednesday.
Keaton Jones, Swimming
Former Higley High School swimmer Keaton Jones will compete in the 200-meter backstroke heats. Should he advance, the semifinal takes place later in the day.
Regan Smith, Swimming
Former Sun Devil Regan Smith will also be in the water on Wednesday, swimming in the 200-meter butterfly heats. If Smith qualifies, she’ll swim in the semifinals later in the day. She secured a silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke on Tuesday.
Delaney Schnell, Diving
Diver Delaney Schnell, alongside her partner Jessica Parratto, is competing for the gold in women’s synchronized 10-meter platform diving. Schnell previously won a silver medal in this event at the Tokyo Olympics.
Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, Men’s Basketball
Phoenix Suns players Devin Booker and Kevin Durant return to the court for Team USA against South Sudan. Team USA recently triumphed over Serbia with a score of 110-84.
Jimmer Fredette, 3X3 Men’s Basketball
Jimmer Fredette, best known for his tenure at Brigham Young University and a brief stint with the Phoenix Suns in 2019, continues his career in 3×3 basketball. Now an Olympian, Fredette and his team face Poland in pool play on Wednesday.
Cierra Burdick, 3X3 Women’s Basketball
Former Phoenix Mercury forward Cierra Burdick has been playing 3×3 basketball since college. Burdick and her team will compete against Azerbaijan in pool play on Wednesday.
Desirae Krawczyk, Women’s Tennis
Former Sun Devil Desirae Krawczyk is representing the U.S. in women’s doubles tennis with partner Danielle Collins. On Tuesday, they defeated Greece’s Despina Papamichail and Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-3. They face Ukraine’s Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok on Wednesday.
Léon Marchand, Men’s Swimming
Former ASU swimmer Léon Marchand will compete in two races on Wednesday following four races on Tuesday. He’s aiming for gold in the 200-meter butterfly and the men’s 200-meter breaststroke.
