'These are not innocent pranks': Arizona school district warns of TikTok challenge

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — The Bullhead City School District has raised alarms regarding a possible TikTok challenge linked to recent incidents of property vandalism at two of its schools.

Officials reported that Bullhead City Middle School experienced a brief evacuation after a laptop emitted smoke in a classroom. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

The school district suggested that these acts align with a TikTok trend urging students to damage Chromebooks by shorting ports with foreign objects.

Additionally, up to six Chromebooks were vandalized at Fox Creek Junior High, although these devices did not catch fire. Local police have initiated an investigation, with potential disciplinary actions and criminal charges looming for involved students.

Superintendent Dr. Carolyn Stewart stressed the importance of parental guidance, urging conversations about social media’s responsibilities and the potential consequences of reckless behavior. “These are not innocent pranks,” she emphasized.

The issue is not isolated to Arizona, as districts nationwide have issued warnings about the TikTok challenge. Recently, a New Jersey student allegedly set a Chromebook ablaze, further highlighting the risks associated with these viral trends.
