Arizona Pastor Slain at Home: Suspect Reveals Chilling Plans to Kill Again in Jailhouse Confession

In a shocking jailhouse interview with 12News, Adam Sheafe confessed to the murder of Pastor Bill Schonemann in New River. He also revealed plans to kill more religious leaders across the country.
Sheafe, currently held in Coconino County, confirmed the allegations against him, stating, “All of those allegations are correct.” He described his intentions as part of a misguided mission dubbed “Operation First Commandment,” claiming a religious motive rooted in his interpretation of biblical scripture.
The details shared by Sheafe are unsettling. He expressed a belief that Jesus Christ subverts the fundamental commandment of worship, ultimately leading him to act against those he views as blasphemers. “His commandments have been annulled by this character called Jesus,” he asserted, identifying himself as a crusader in a personal war against perceived falsehoods in religion.
Sheafe admitted to minimal premeditation, stating he only needed a couple of months from conceptualizing his actions to the murder of Pastor Schonemann, who had served his church for over 30 years.
Following the murder on April 28, Sheafe attempted to target additional clergy in Sedona but was apprehended after a high-speed chase with police. “Had I been better prepared… I don’t think there would have been any way to stop me,” he claimed, showing no remorse for his violent intentions.
Awaiting extradition back to Maricopa County, Sheafe expressed his desire for a swift resolution, even demanding a death sentence. “Put me on death row, set the execution date for right now,” he said, displaying a chilling detachment from the horror of his deeds.
In response, Randall Schonemann, Pastor Bill’s son, expressed a mix of emotions. He appreciates Sheafe’s admission, as it may simplify legal proceedings, yet remains ambivalent about the call for the death penalty, emphasizing a need to focus on healing rather than vengeance.
While Sheafe may seek to expedite his fate, the legal process may take years to unfold, leaving many unanswered questions in the wake of this tragic event.
