The second full week of competition of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is underway. Here are the Arizona athletes who competed Monday and who won a medal!

PARIS, France — The second full week of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris commenced on Monday.

The first nine days have witnessed thrilling performances and notable wins by Arizona athletes. On Sunday, swimmers Léon Marchand (bronze), Regan Smith (gold), and archer Brady Ellison (silver) added to their medal tally, showcasing their exceptional skills.

Today, another Arizona Olympian will vie for a medal. Here’s a detailed look at who is competing and when (all times are Arizona time):

3×3 Basketball

Women’s Semifinals USA vs. Spain

The US women, featuring former Phoenix Mercury forward Cierra Burdick, faced Spain in the semifinals, losing 18-16 in overtime. Despite not scoring, Burdick contributed with five rebounds. In the bronze-medal game, the US women triumphed over Canada with a score of 16-13. Burdick added three points and three rebounds, helping secure the bronze medal.

Beach Volleyball

Men’s Round of 16 Chase Budinger, a former University of Arizona basketball player and former Phoenix Sun

Budinger and his partner Miles Evans played against Norway’s Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sandlie Soerum at 5 a.m. Unfortunately, Budinger and Evans lost 0-2, concluding their Olympic campaign.

Diving

Women’s 10-meter platform Delaney Schnell, a former University of Arizona diver residing in Tucson

With a preliminary score of 278.15, Schnell secured 15th place, advancing to the semifinals. However, she couldn’t improve her position, finishing 15th again in the semifinals with a score of 271.95, failing to make it to the finals.

Track and Field

Men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase US runner Matthew Wilkinson, training with Under Armour Mission Run Dark Sky Distance in Flagstaff

Wilkinson competed in Heat 2 at 10:04 a.m. Although he finished in sixth place, just over a second behind India’s Avinash Mukund Sable, it wasn’t enough to advance to the final on August 7.

Arizona Sports

Phoenix boasts four major professional sports league teams: The NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, NBA’s Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, and MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Cardinals play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, while the Suns and Mercury call the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix their home.
