Lawmakers from Arizona respond after strikes on Iran

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that U.S. forces have launched attacks on three critical Iranian nuclear and military facilities, heightening tensions in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

The targeted sites include Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan, with Fordo identified as the primary focus of the operation. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran subsequently confirmed the strikes at all three locations.

Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which houses facilities across the nation, includes several prominent locations, such as one situated in Tehran. Natanz has been a frequent target of sabotage believed to be orchestrated by Israel.

Reactions from Arizona lawmakers have been swift and varied. Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) expressed concern, citing the need for evidence supporting the attacks and warning against a potential escalation into another protracted conflict. “The American people do not want to be dragged into another endless war in the Middle East,” he stated, emphasizing the loss of life during his military service in Iraq.

Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-Arizona District 3) criticized the military action as unauthorized and called for an emergency congressional session to address the situation. “Donald Trump illegally took military action against Iran—without congressional authorization,” she stated.

Conversely, Republican lawmakers showed support for the strikes. Congressman Abraham J. Hamadeh (R-Arizona District 8) lauded the decision as necessary for eliminating threats to national security, asserting that the “days of Iran’s nuclear blackmail are over.”

Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) voiced gratitude for service members’ safe return but raised questions about the administration’s justification for the strikes. He remarked, “President Trump promised, ‘I’m not going to start a war,’ and that promise is now broken.”

In a divergent perspective, Representative Juan Ciscomani (R-Arizona District 6) expressed confidence in the operation and praised American military efforts in ensuring global safety.
