Arizona Lawmakers Fight for Relief Amid Soaring Electricity Rates in Lake Havasu City

PHOENIX – Legislators in Arizona are pressing state regulators to reevaluate recent electricity rate hikes that are significantly affecting residents in Mohave County. House Majority Leader Leo Biasiucci, along with Rep. John Gillette and Sen. Sonny Borrelli, has reached out to Arizona Corporation Commission Chairman Jim O’Connor, urging a revisit of UniSource Energy’s seasonal rates.
The lawmakers highlighted the financial hardships faced by fixed-income households in areas such as Lake Havasu City, Kingman, and Golden Valley. In a letter addressed to O’Connor, they underscored the difficulty many residents are experiencing in affording essential needs amidst increasing energy costs.
While acknowledging the commission’s regulatory efforts, the legislators insisted on the necessity of addressing the local impact of these hikes. They proposed a meeting between the commission, UniSource, and community representatives to discuss concerns and identify potential solutions.
Biasiucci expressed that residents of Mohave County are in urgent need of relief and expressed optimism that the commission along with UniSource would respond positively to the situation.
