Arizona Lawmakers Celebrate Biden’s Bold Move on Title IX Changes

By Daniel Stefanski |
Arizona Republicans are expressing satisfaction following a recent court decision that reinforces protections for female students. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky ruled against a new Title IX regulation from the Biden administration, stating that it exceeds the Department’s authority and contradicts constitutional principles.
According to a press release from Arizona Senate Republicans, the now-invalidated rule mandated schools to permit biological males into areas designated for females, compromising safety and privacy in restrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. This has sparked a statewide discussion about gender identity and women’s rights in educational institutions.
Senate President Warren Petersen commended the coalition of conservative attorneys general for their efforts. He remarked, “Women and girls are fighting an uphill battle as progressives try to undo the protections created for them,” referencing legislative efforts like Arizona’s Save Women’s Sports Act, which remains a contentious issue currently challenged in court.
Senator Sine Kerr emphasized the importance of this ruling, framing it as a protective measure for women’s rights. She criticized Governor Hobbs for vetoing the Arizona Women’s Bill of Rights, expressing a commitment from Senate Republicans to advocate for legislation that secures female-only spaces and activities. “Our daughters and granddaughters deserve to feel safe,” she asserted.
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, who led the legal efforts against the Title IX regulation, called the court’s decision a significant victory. He stated, “This ruling is a repudiation of the Biden administration’s attempt to impose radical gender ideology through unlawful rulemaking,” indicating a broader pushback against perceived overreach by the federal government.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares echoed this sentiment, applauding the decision as a victorious stance for women’s protections established over decades. “I’m proud to have successfully defended Title IX from the federal government’s power grab,” he noted, signifying a united front among states against federal regulations perceived as overstepping boundaries.
Petersen positions himself as a defender of Arizona’s interests within both state and federal legal arenas. He has pledged an increased focus on legal challenges in 2025, aiming to safeguard Arizona from what he describes as government overreach and special interests attempting to steer the state in radical directions.
