Arizona Jury Delivers Justice: Cyberstalker Convicted for Months of Harassment Against Ex-Government Official

TUCSON, Ariz. — Brian Balda, a 52-year-old man from Oregon, has been convicted by a federal jury for harassing and stalking a former U.S. government official based in Arizona.
The case began when Balda allegedly sent a series of profane messages and voicemails over several months. Following his disturbing communication, he traveled to Arizona, intending to confront the victim. Law enforcement apprehended him near the victim’s home, discovering four knives, binoculars, and a replica gun in his vehicle.
Initially, the victim dismissed the odd messages that started in early 2023. Over time, however, the content of the communications became alarming. One particular message read, “…I think you should pay for what you did.”
By February 2024, Balda left a voicemail indicating his presence in Arizona, stating, “you and I need to have a chat.” This revelation heightened concerns and prompted the victim to take action.
During a four-day trial, prosecutors presented their case, leading to Balda’s conviction for cyberstalking and interstate stalking. Sentencing is set for September 4.
