Arizona GOP Hails Sine Kerr’s New Role at USDA Farm Service Agency

Former Arizona State Senator Sine Kerr has been appointed as the State Executive Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Arizona. This decision has garnered enthusiastic support from Republican leaders within the state.
A formal letter dated March 24, 2025, from Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen and other key Republicans praised Kerr as a “leader of tremendous character.” They highlighted her unwavering commitment to agriculture and her leadership in significant legislation focused on water conservation and support for farmers.
Kerr served in the Arizona Senate from 2018 to 2025, chairing the Senate Natural Resources, Energy, and Water Committee. She played a pivotal role in the Drought Contingency Plan for the Colorado River, safeguarded water users in Yuma, and directed investments toward irrigation infrastructure in Pinal County. Significant legislation she championed includes SB 1145 for irrigation efficiency, SB 1448 for agricultural nuisance protections, and SB 1740 for financing water infrastructure.
Elevated to Majority Whip in 2023, Kerr was instrumental in passing a conservative budget that featured Arizona’s largest tax rebate and increased funding for state parks and agricultural water systems. In 2024, she introduced SB 1081, promoting economic growth in rural areas through water supply collaboration.
On May 2, 2025, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed Kerr’s appointment, noting, “When America’s farming communities prosper, the entire nation thrives.” Rollins emphasized this new leadership group’s role in advancing the administration’s agricultural initiatives.
Kerr steps into this role at a crucial time as Arizona grapples with water scarcity, rural infrastructure, and sustainability challenges. Her extensive background in agriculture positions her well to lead the agency effectively.
Senate President Petersen encapsulated the general sentiment by stating, “Senator Kerr would be an exceptional choice to lead the Farm Service Agency as its Arizona State Director.” This appointment is expected to enhance the USDA’s efforts in Arizona, focusing on economic strengthening and supporting agricultural producers.
