Arizona Firm Recalls Cucumber Harvest Over Salmonella Scare
Arizona-based SunFed Produce is recalling cucumbers sold in several states due to salmonella contamination concerns. The recall affects cucumbers purchased between October 12 and November 26.
This action follows reports linking these cucumbers to salmonella illnesses occurring from October 12 to November 15. Consumers in states including Texas, Arkansas, California, and as far north as Alaska are impacted. In Canada, affected provinces include Alberta and Ontario.
“As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers,” said SunFed President Craig Slate. The company is collaborating with health authorities and the ranch involved to investigate the outbreak’s source.
If you suspect you have purchased the recalled cucumbers, the FDA advises immediate action. Do not consume them; instead, discard the cucumbers to prevent any health risks. Clean and sanitize any surfaces that may have been in contact with the product.
If you experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain after eating the cucumbers, seek medical attention promptly. For any questions, consumers can reach out to SunFed’s recall hotline at 888-542-5849 from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Houston time.
Symptoms of salmonella infection can appear between six hours to six days after exposure. Although many recover within four to seven days, severe cases may require hospitalization, and the infection can be fatal if the bacteria enter the bloodstream.
