Arizona deputy fatally shoots K-9 after dog bites his leg

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — A deputy marshal in southern Arizona has fatally shot his K-9 partner during a troubling incident that occurred on Tuesday morning. Authorities from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call at the Tombstone Marshal’s Office, where they discovered the deputy and his deceased K-9 outside a bathroom.

The situation unfolded during the deputy’s night shift with his K-9, named Hawk. Reports indicate that the dog unexpectedly latched onto the deputy’s leg. Efforts to separate himself from Hawk included attempts to use a bathroom door, but the K-9 continued to resist release.

Ultimately, the deputy resorted to using his service weapon to shoot Hawk, resulting in the dog’s death. The deputy sustained injuries to his leg and was subsequently transported to a Tucson hospital for medical attention.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation into this incident. They plan to consult an expert from Tucson as part of the inquiry process.
