Arizona Coyotes’ Death Toll Surges Amid Poisoning Investigation

TUCSON, Ariz. — An alarming number of dead wildlife has been reported in southern Arizona, prompting an investigation into possible poisoning. Wildlife officials have discovered a total of 32 dead coyotes, along with three javelinas and a raven, near Pantano Wash in Tucson.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department investigated several animal deaths in the region and has determined that some may have resulted from poisoned bait. Examining one of the deceased animals provided evidence suggesting a link to this bait.
Initially, 14 coyotes and three javelinas, as well as a raven, were found last week. The death of three dogs in the vicinity has also raised concerns among residents. Officials stated that the coyotes had been dead for some time, indicating a potential ongoing issue.
A spokesperson for Game and Fish mentioned that no new poisoned bait has been detected since the first reports surfaced. The agency encourages the public to report any suspected wildlife violations. Residents can contact Arizona Game and Fish at 1-800-352-0700 for assistance.
