A second Smith-Enke crash today — and for the same reason

A second T-bone crash occurred today at a Rancho El Dorado entrance due to a driver failing to yield. The collision happened around 7:30 p.m. on Smith-Enke Road at Vintage Drive.

Isis Mada, a resident of Palo Brea, was driving westbound in her Jeep Cherokee when the incident took place. A driver in a black sedan reportedly pulled into her path without checking for oncoming vehicles, leading to the crash.

At the time of the accident, Mada had her two young children in the vehicle. The impact was significant; it forced the black sedan into a third car approaching from the opposite direction.

Emergency responders from the Maricopa Police, Fire, and Medical Departments quickly arrived at the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Nevertheless, the road was closed to eastbound traffic on Smith-Enke at Santa Cruz due to disabled vehicles.

Public safety spokesperson Monica Williams indicated that tow trucks were on site and the road was expected to reopen within 30 minutes. Around 8:30 p.m., drivers were rerouted via Butterfield Parkway to Honeycutt Road due to the heavy congestion in the area.

Since October 9, InMaricopa has reported six crashes at or near this intersection, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
