Another California company will soon call Texas home

The company already has 7,000 employees in the Houston area versus 2,000 in California.

HOUSTON — Chevron is relocating its headquarters from San Ramon, Calif., to Houston, Texas.

Chevron announced on Friday morning that Chairman and CEO Mike Wirth, along with Vice Chairman Mark Nelson, will move to Houston by the end of 2024. The move aims to enhance collaboration among senior leaders and improve their engagement with executives, employees, and business partners.

Despite the relocation of senior leadership, employees in San Ramon are expected to experience minimal impacts. Over the next five years, all corporate functions will transition to Houston.

“It’s an exciting day to be a Houstonian and an exciting day to be the mayor of Houston,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said during a Friday morning press conference.

Mayor Whitmire mentioned that he had spoken with Chevron’s leadership that morning. “They considered all options before deciding to move their entire corporate headquarters to downtown Houston,” he said.

Currently, Chevron has approximately 7,000 employees in the Houston area and around 2,000 in San Ramon. The company operates crude oil fields, technical facilities, and two refineries, supplying over 1,800 retail stations in California.
