An Arizona Teacher’s Major Award Unlocks Incredible New Opportunities
Emmett Burnton, a dedicated teacher from Boulder Creek High School, has been recognized as Arizona’s Teacher of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year.
Burnton, who teaches AP World History and U.S. History Dual Enrollment, received this prestigious honor during a ceremony held at the Madison Center of the Arts in Phoenix. His achievements include innovative contributions to education and exceptional leadership within the classroom.
Notably, Burnton is the founder of a business aimed at transforming how students engage with world history. His involvement is not just limited to academics; he sponsors various clubs including the anime and culture clubs while also serving as co-level lead of the Advanced Placement professional learning community for history.
His accolades include nominations for the Deer Valley Rookie of the Year Award and the distinction of Deer Valley Education Foundation Teacher of the Year in 2024. With nine years of teaching experience at Boulder Creek High School, Burnton continues to inspire his students and his peers.
As Arizona’s Teacher of the Year, he will have numerous unique opportunities, including meeting the President of the United States, participating in training at Google headquarters, and attending the International Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Additionally, he will be eligible for an honorary doctorate from Northern Arizona University.
