Amphi Opens Doors for New School Board Member: Apply Now!

Amphitheater Public Schools is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its school board following the passing of Boardmember Patricia “Patsy” Harris on June 17. Harris had an extensive history with the district, starting as a graduate of Amphitheater High School and later serving as a teacher and principal.
Her career spanned multiple schools, including La Cima Middle School and Canyon del Oro High School, where she held roles as counselor and administrator. Elected to the school board in 2024, Harris left behind a legacy of commitment. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
According to state law, Pima County School Superintendent Dustin J. Williams will appoint a successor who will serve until December 31, 2026. Williams commended Harris’s contributions to the district, highlighting her dedication and commitment over the years.
The school board has a 30-day window to recommend up to three candidates for the position, though Williams maintains the discretion to choose any applicant. The seat will be subject to re-election during the November 2026 general election for a two-year term.
Individuals interested in applying for the vacancy can access the application on the superintendent’s website. Applications can be submitted via email to matthew.stamp@pima.gov or mailed to 200 N. Stone Ave. The deadline for applications is set for August 4 at 5 p.m.
