American Alex Walsh loses bronze medal due to disqualification

PARIS, France — American swimmer Alex Walsh faced disqualification on Saturday, resulting in her being stripped of the bronze medal in the women’s 200-meter individual medley at the Paris Olympics.

The decision came after Walsh, initially finishing third, was found to have violated swimming regulations. According to World Aquatics, a referee determined that Walsh failed to complete the backstroke leg correctly and turned prematurely. She avoided speaking with the press as she passed through the mixed zone.

Meanwhile, fellow American Kate Douglass secured the silver medal in the same event. The race was dominated by 17-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh, who claimed her third gold medal of these Olympics.
