American Legion Post 34 Auxiliary Empowers Homeless Veterans at MANA House
The American Legion Post 34 Auxiliary (ALA) has intensified its support efforts for veterans in the community. Recently, the group made a significant impact on over 70 veterans in need, demonstrating a commitment beyond mere financial contributions.
A standout partnership for the ALA is with MANA House, previously known as the Madison Street Veterans Association. This peer-support organization, comprising homeless and formerly homeless veterans, provides essential resources, community support, and advocacy. Their goal is to help veterans transition successfully after military service.
With backing from Catholic Charities, MANA House equips veterans with vital support through its dedicated staff and partner organizations like Post 34. ALA member Sandy Busalacchi shared insights into the auxiliary’s evolving role. “MANA began in 2008 with veterans wanting to assist others in need,” she explained. While previous contributions focused on financial support, this year marked a shift towards addressing specific personal needs of veterans.
In a recent initiative, ALA members, including Sandy Busalacchi, Susie Snider, Pat Leinen, and Fran Booth, dedicated several days to organize the donation room at MANA House. “I prefer in-person encounters to just writing a check,” Busalacchi noted. Helping veterans personally resonates deeply with her, showcasing the emotional connection to their mission.
Located at 2422 W. Holly Street in Phoenix, MANA House plays a pivotal role in supporting veterans. Since its inception in 1919, the American Legion has focused on advocating for veterans, active military personnel, and their families. A non-secular and non-political organization, it nurtures patriotism and responsible citizenship while fostering various initiatives to support its members.
