Isaiah Bandin, a 15-year-old, has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Esteban Valenzuela in Maricopa, according to reports from InMaricopa. This accusation stems from a tragic incident last month.

On November 28, Bandin appeared in Pinal County Juvenile Detention Court before Judge Roger Valdez. Appointed to defend him is public defender Jolanta Rusinski, who operates in the area of Rancho El Dorado. Attempts to reach Rusinski for comment were unsuccessful. Bandin’s arraignment is scheduled to take place tomorrow in Florence.

Bandin’s social media activity has drawn attention, notably on his Instagram account where he memorializes Valenzuela with the username “EstebansWRLD,” featuring a dove emoji. Furthermore, TikTok posts on Bandin’s account, @Isaiah_Bandin, depict images of him engaging in illegal activities, such as smoking and drinking, against a backdrop of ominous audio titled “death.”

The night of the murder revealed disturbing scenes on Dancer Lane, where it is believed a drug deal turned violent. Reports indicate vape boxes cluttered the area, suggesting illicit transactions had occurred. Bandin was one of two minors detained during a SWAT-assisted raid and a related traffic stop, with another 16-year-old later arrested in connection to the murder.

Authorities were first alerted to a shooting on November 22, finding Valenzuela in critical condition in the 45000 block of Dirk Street. Despite medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. A police statement characterized the incident as involving several juveniles and young adults, indicating a concerning trend of youth-related violence.

Bandin is reportedly a member of the Ak-Chin Indian Community and has an active online presence where he often flaunted his illegal activities. Following his arrest, friends and peers have rallied on social media, using the hashtag #freemybrother to express their support.

Deputy Attorney Jason Johanes is leading the prosecution, and Bandin faces serious charges as he is now being processed as an adult. Should he be found guilty, he could face a life sentence, exempt from the death penalty due to his age. As per Arizona law, children younger than 15 cannot be tried as adults.

Currently, Bandin remains in custody, with a cash bond set at $1 million. Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer has refrained from confirming details regarding the connection between Bandin and the homicide, citing legal constraints. Law enforcement has also limited information dissemination to maintain the integrity of their ongoing investigation.

Monica Williams, an MPD spokesperson, reiterated the importance of protecting the evidence necessary for prosecution while the case remains active. As the situation unfolds, the community continues to grapple with the implications of this violent incident among its youth.
