Fifteen-year-old Jaylen Reeves, a talented football player at Mountain Pointe High School in Ahwatukee, was tragically killed after being stabbed on Saturday. The local community is now grappling with the somber reality of this incident.
In response to his passing, dozens gathered for a candlelight vigil outside Chandler Regional Medical Center to honor his memory. Family, friends, and teammates shared their grief and cherished moments spent with him.
“He was a light in all of our lives,” said his uncle, Ceth Reeves. The emotional gathering emphasized Jaylen’s capacity to connect with those around him through his warmth and empathy.
Jaylen lost his life early Saturday morning after a confrontation erupted at a park near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard. According to Phoenix police, the incident began while he was socializing with friends. As of now, detectives have not identified any suspects related to the case.
In a heartfelt tribute, friends visited the location of the incident, laying flowers and praying at a makeshift memorial. “We love him and we came out to show support,” one friend expressed. Another described Jaylen as someone approachable and compassionate.
Ceth Reeves reflected on the special bond he shared with Jaylen, recognizing his remarkable football skills along with his infectious smile and sense of style. In a final act of generosity, the family revealed that Jaylen’s healthy organs will be donated to help save lives.
“He’d always protect us. He’s protecting somebody else’s life now,” Ceth said, highlighting Jaylen’s enduring spirit.
During the vigil, the Reeves family made it clear they are determined to seek justice for Jaylen. They encourage anyone with information about the fight to reach out to authorities or Silent Witness. Additionally, community members are urged to review any surveillance footage that might aid the investigation.
