ADOT Alert: Major I-10 West Closure in Phoenix Set for Sept. 6-9

Drivers in Phoenix are advised to prepare for significant delays this weekend due to extensive roadwork on Interstate 10 (I-10). According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 6, and will extend until 4 a.m. on Monday, September 9.
The westbound lanes of I-10 will be shut down between the U.S. 60 and I-17 junctions. Additionally, several on-ramps will also close during this period. Specifically, the ramps from westbound U.S. 60 to westbound I-10, the southbound SR 143 ramp to westbound I-10, and the eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound SR 143 will be affected.
From 8 p.m. Friday until the early hours of Monday, the following on-ramps will be closed as well: westbound I-10 on-ramps at Elliot, Baseline, and Broadway roads, alongside the ramps at 40th and 32nd streets. Also, the westbound U.S. 60 on-ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road, and Mill Avenue will not be accessible.
ADOT has proposed several detour routes for drivers. Motorists can use the eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) or U.S. 60 to connect with northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway), which leads to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) for access to southbound SR 143 and westbound I-10 beyond the closure. Those traveling to the West Valley are encouraged to take the Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to join I-10 at 59th Avenue. For travelers heading to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the recommended route is northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) using the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance.
ADOT plans to provide updates throughout the weekend. As a reminder, drivers should remain vigilant, reduce speed, and merge safely when approaching construction zones to ensure everyone’s safety.
