A Refreshing Breeze Sweeps Through the Valley of the Sun

A cooldown blowing into the Valley of the Sun

Winds will intensify this evening as temperatures drop, prompting a Freeze Watch for the Phoenix area.

PHOENIX — Weather forecasters indicate that wind will dominate Monday’s conditions, notably in the afternoon. A front of colder air is set to move into Arizona from the north, which will bring gusty winds, particularly over mountainous areas and along the Colorado River. Bullhead City, Lake Havasu, and Parker might experience gusts approaching 50 mph. In the Valley, wind speeds are likely to range from 15 to 25 mph during the afternoon and into the evening.

Following this wind event, the cooler air will make its presence felt. High temperatures in the Phoenix area are expected to only reach the low to mid 60s on Tuesday. A cold night will follow, with Wednesday morning temperatures forecasted to be between the upper 20s and mid 30s. Residents should plan accordingly to safeguard plants, pets, and exposed pipes.

In terms of precipitation, Phoenix is experiencing a dry spell that has now stretched to 150 days without measurable rain, nearing the 160-day record set in 1972. There is a slight chance for rain in the Valley this Sunday, although specific conditions must align for that possibility to materialize. Monitoring of this situation will continue.
