A Miraculous Journey: Arizona Dog Survives Impalement and Finds Its Forever Home
Junum, a two-year-old Shepherd mix, has finally found a loving home in Buckeye, marking a triumphant end to a remarkable recovery journey. The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) reported his case stemming from a severe injury sustained in July when he became impaled on a wire fence.
Responding to a distress call, AHS technicians discovered Junum with grave injuries, including a large abdominal laceration. He had attempted to scale the fence, resulting in significant damage and the emergency protrusion of his intestines. “We all held our breaths for this dog because we just were not sure of what the outcome was going to be,” stated Kelsey Dickerson, an AHS spokesperson.
Following his rescue, Junum underwent an extensive surgical procedure where veterinarians successfully removed more than five feet of damaged intestines. For over a month, he received critical care in the shelter’s intensive care unit, which included dental surgery. Against daunting odds, Junum’s spirit endured, and he is now thriving with his new family.
To support AHS and its mission, donations can significantly contribute to the well-being of pets like Junum. Various initiatives, including a $50,000 CareCredit donation match and special events like the Ulti-Mutt Toyota Car Raffle, offer avenues for community engagement.
