Family grieving after loved one killed in 'tire explosion' incident

Mirko Marweg’s family received devastating news early Tuesday morning: he had been killed, along with a coworker, in a tragic accident at Delta’s TechOps facility near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The 58-year-old from Stone Mountain was known as a “Mr. Fix-It” and cherished by those who knew him. His son, Andre Coleman, shared his shock and grief shortly after the family’s devastating phone call filled with painful details.

“If I could tell him something right now, I would say no more suffering. You had your time here with us; now it’s time for you to be with God,” Coleman expressed. His disbelief was palpable, leaving him yearning for reassurance that the tragic news was not true.

The family faced heartbreaking news from the Clayton County Medical Examiner, who indicated that Marweg’s body was “unrecognizable.” Alongside him, 37-year-old Luis Aldarondo from Newnan also lost his life. A third coworker sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized.

According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. while Marweg and Aldarondo worked on wheel components. A narrative from a witness during the incident described a loud explosion, as coworkers fled to seek help.

The exact circumstances surrounding the explosion and subsequent accident remain unclear as investigations continue. Marweg’s family is holding tightly to cherished memories, including a recent oil change they completed together on his motorcycle.

Delta Air Lines extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy, offering support during this difficult time. A letter from Delta’s TechOps President John Laughter highlighted the company’s commitment to investigating the incident and providing necessary resources to grieving employees.
