Ciscomani Secures U.S. Chamber Endorsement in Southern Arizona Congressional Showdown
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce expressed its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani during a recent stop in Tucson as part of its “Free Enterprise Champion Tour.” Chamber Western Region Vice President Jennings Imel lauded Ciscomani’s voting record and his previous leadership role with the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “We have someone like Congressman Ciscomani who understands how free enterprise works and why it is so important,” Imel emphasized.
Imel also commended Ciscomani for his bipartisan approach, remarking on the need for collaboration across party lines. “We need members like Juan Ciscomani who are willing to reach across the aisle to deliver results for Southern Arizona,” he stated.
Ciscomani is gearing up for a competitive election against Democrat Kristen Engel, a former state lawmaker who narrowly lost to him in 2022. The two candidates are set to debate on Thursday, August 29, at 5 p.m. The debate will be broadcast live on Phoenix’s AZPBS and will also air on Arizona Public Media’s PBS 6 and NPR affiliate KUAZ-FM, 89.1.
In response to the Chamber’s endorsement, Ciscomani highlighted the challenges posed by government regulations on businesses. “I’ve always said that the government does not create jobs. It’s the private sector that does it,” he declared.
The U.S. Chamber is not the only organization expressing support for Ciscomani. He has received endorsements from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Federation of Small Business, and several law enforcement agencies, including the Tucson Police Officers Association and the National Border Patrol Council.
Local business leaders also back Ciscomani, with Jim Click and Howard Stewart among his supporters. Stewart noted Ciscomani’s commitment to local issues, saying, “Juan understands and deeply cares about the interests of our community.”
On the other hand, Engel has secured notable endorsements as well, including from former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly. Both support her focus on job creation and community welfare. Engel is also backed by various environmental organizations, unions, and LGBTQ advocacy groups, highlighting her diverse support base.
As the election approaches, Ciscomani and Engel represent contrasting visions for Arizona, with both candidates vying for the critical support of voters in the region. The upcoming debate will provide a platform for each to present their case to the public.
