Update: School district FY25 budget will total $10.79M

In a clarification following a recent report, the Sedona-Oak Creek School District (SOCSD) has revealed that its fiscal year 2025 budget totals $10,788,711, contrary to the earlier stated figure of $8.015 million. This misunderstanding arose from a narrow interpretation of the budget components.

SOCSD Finance Director Stacy Saravo emphasized that the $8 million figure represents only the district’s Maintenance and Operations (M&O) budget. She explained that this budget encompasses the majority of day-to-day expenditures, which are essential for daily operations. The M&O budget for FY25 is allocated at $6,111,088.

The complete budget includes a variety of expenses beyond the M&O, such as:

  • $1,280,821 for unspecified unrestricted capital outlay
  • $1,180,555 for unspecified classroom site expenditures
  • $1,015,505 in unspecified other expenditures
  • $623,323 for federal projects
  • $250,000 for school plant expenditures
  • $206,461 for food services
  • $76,463 for unspecified “auxiliary operations”
  • $36,000 for debt service
  • $8,495 for state projects

Notably, the detailed budget document does not provide specific breakdowns regarding the allocation for teacher or administrator salaries, educational materials, or administrative costs. This omission has raised questions about how funds are prioritized within the district.
