The city of Phoenix’s Human Services Department, along with councilmembers, organized an event on June 27 to commemorate National HIV Testing Day. This gathering also marked the opening of a new clinic dedicated to enhancing community resources to combat HIV and AIDS.

Vice Mayor Debra Stark and Councilmembers Laura Pastor and Carlos Galindo-Elvira participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Be Well Health clinic, located inside Walgreens at 3402 N. Central Ave. The event featured complimentary HIV testing and provided information on HIV and AIDS care, along with entertainment.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, new HIV cases in the state surged by 20 percent last year. Accessible testing is essential, as it connects individuals to necessary resources, enabling them to manage their health and prevent further transmission.

This event was part of the city’s Fast-Track Cities Initiative, which aims to enhance HIV programs with a goal of eradicating the epidemic by 2030. For more information, visit www.bewellhealthaz.com.
