Detectives find, charge woman who crashed into Glennwilde home

Maricopa Police Department has filed hit-and-run charges against a woman who was captured on surveillance footage driving into a Glennwilde residence last month. The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on July 21, when security video from the 19000 block of North Arbor Drive showed a Mercedes Benz SUV crashing into Andrew Schlecht’s home, inflicting an estimated $13,000 in damages.

Schlecht, hoping for public assistance in identifying the suspect, shared the footage of the crash online. This footage, along with images depicting the significant damage to his garage and a supporting pillar, drew attention to the incident.

According to Police Chief Mark Goodman, detectives identified 44-year-old Laura Williams as the suspect following a comprehensive investigation. Williams was located and interviewed on August 14, during which she confessed to driving the vehicle involved in the incident.

Goodman reported that Williams had been consuming alcohol at a nearby casino before the crash and was briefly renting an Airbnb in Maricopa. She claimed her disorientation led her to accelerate while attempting to make a turn, resulting in the collision with Schlecht’s home.

Williams faces charges of criminal damage and fleeing the scene of an accident, with potential penalties including up to one year in jail. Following the investigation, Goodman expressed satisfaction that the suspect was held accountable for her actions.
