Arizona’s Olympians shone brightly at the 2024 Paris Olympics, returning home with a slew of medals. The Games concluded with athletes achieving remarkable feats on the international stage.

Phoenix Suns stars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, contributing significantly to Team USA, secured the gold medal in men’s basketball. Durant made history as the first four-time men’s gold medalist in Olympic basketball, while Booker celebrated his second gold medal.

The U.S. women’s basketball team also triumphed, overcoming France in a dramatic final. Stars Brittney Griner, Diana Taurasi, and Kahleah Copper played pivotal roles, contributing to an unprecedented eighth-straight Olympic gold. The match concluded dramatically, with the U.S. narrowly winning 67-66.

In women’s soccer, the U.S. team emerged victorious against Brazil with a 1-0 scoreline. Sydney Smith, engaged to Arizona Cardinals’ Michael Wilson, competed with Team USA, marking her first Olympic gold.

Arizonan Jade Carey experienced success in gymnastics, earning a bronze for her vault and aiding Team USA’s gold in the all-around team final. Her journey included a gold from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, a formidable addition to her accolades.

Léon Marchand, a former ASU swimmer representing France, was a standout with four gold medals and one bronze. He made waves by narrowly missing a world record in the 200-meter individual medley, making his mark as a prominent figure in these Games.

Regan Smith, another former ASU swimmer, claimed her first gold in the 4×100 medley relay. She also took silver in multiple events, displaying her versatility and prowess in the pool.

Former ASU athletes Bente and Lieke Rogge won bronze with Team Netherlands in women’s water polo, while archery competitor Brady Ellison added to Arizona’s medal tally with a silver in individual men’s archery alongside a bronze in mixed team events.

Jagger Eaton, hailing from Mesa, achieved a silver in men’s skateboarding, showcasing his skill and determination. Meanwhile, fellow ASU student Kennedy Blades secured silver in women’s freestyle wrestling during her inaugural Olympic appearance.

Grant Fisher distinguished himself by winning bronze in both the men’s 5,000 and 10,000-meters, a historic first for an American male athlete. Former Phoenix Mercury player Cierra Burdick capped off her Olympic journey with a bronze in women’s 3×3 basketball.

In total, Arizona’s Olympians contributed to a remarkable medal haul, with at least 22 medals claimed. Team USA excelled overall, leading the medal count with 126 medals across various disciplines.
