Father’s Heartwarming Surprise: Home from Deployment to Reunite with Daughters

GILBERT, Ariz. — After nearly nine months serving overseas, Christopher Fulton returned to surprise his daughters at Carol Rae Ranch Elementary School. Clad in his Army uniform, he waited in the school’s office, filled with anticipation and emotion.
“The past year has been lonely, rough, long,” Fulton shared. “But knowing I’ll eventually reconnect with my family brings some light at the end of the tunnel.”
Fulton’s deployment marks his third tour, having previously served in Iraq and other locations in the Middle East. “All my time has been with the Arizona National Guard,” he noted, reflecting on his long military career spanning 18.5 years.
For Fulton, each deployment grows more challenging, especially as his daughters, Layla and Lana, age. “Leaving them gets harder and harder,” he admitted. His family has always served as his motivation to push through difficult times.
Unbeknownst to his daughters, Fulton had arranged a surprise for their scheduled school assembly. His wife, Jordan, coordinated with Principal Chris Birgen to create a memorable homecoming experience for the girls.
“This is for the girls,” Jordan said. “They’ll remember this for the rest of their lives. It’ll be a core memory.” As the children entered the auditorium, Christopher stood behind a curtain, waiting for the perfect moment.
When Layla and Lana were called to the front under the pretense of receiving a prize, the curtain opened, revealing their father. Shock turned to joy as the sisters rushed to him for a heartfelt embrace.
“They mean the world to me,” Christopher declared. “The best gift I ever had. It’s really real. There’s no Facetime, I’m here, and I’m so excited.”
The family looked forward to spending quality time together, cherishing their reunion and looking ahead. “I feel like it’s been a long time coming,” Jordan expressed, while Christopher added, “We’re becoming whole again.”
