Havasu man arrested in alleged DUI accident

Lake Havasu City Police responded to an alarming vehicle accident at the intersection of Mohican Drive and South McCulloch Boulevard last week. Reports indicated that one party involved had a blood alcohol concentration nearly double the legal limit.

On August 2, officers arrived at the scene to discover a white Ford F-250 embedded in a brick wall, sustaining severe front-end and undercarriage damage. Another vehicle, a white Toyota Tacoma, was also severely damaged and obstructing the southwest-bound lane of McCulloch Boulevard.

The Ford’s driver was identified as 27-year-old Justin D. Andersen, who spoke with officers at the site. Andersen, a pool cleaner by profession, admitted to looking down at his phone to check GPS directions, causing him to overlook the approaching Toyota and subsequently crash into it.

Further investigation revealed that Andersen had consumed alcohol before and even during his drive. Officers on the scene noted his slow, slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes. He consented to a field sobriety test but was unable to complete it satisfactorily.

Andersen was arrested at the scene on charges including criminal damage to property and suspicion of driving under the influence. At the Lake Havasu City Police Department, a breath test recorded his blood-alcohol concentration at approximately 0.153%.
