Jubilate Conservatory of Music Welcomes New Instructor

The Jubilate Conservatory of Music, backed by Kiwanis of Carefree, is delighted to announce the addition of Cordi DeDecker to their faculty. DeDecker is an accomplished trumpeter, recorder player, percussionist, and computer musician. He recently led the ‘Band of Crabs Drum Core’ and the ‘Seaweed Recorder Ensemble’ during the highly successful JCM Children’s Summer Musical, “School of Musical Fish,” which took place from June 17-20 in Carefree.

This fall, DeDecker will teach percussion and recorder classes on Tuesdays at the Desert Foothills Library in Cave Creek. Additionally, he will lead the Fourth Sunday Sundial Drum Circle events in Carefree, starting in September. DeDecker, a graduate of ASU with a master’s degree in Trumpet Performance, has received numerous accolades from the National Trumpet Competition, International Trumpet Guild, and International Women’s Brass Conference. A significant milestone in his career was his invitation to perform as a soloist at the prestigious Girolamo Fantini International Competition in Italy.

As a versatile chamber musician, DeDecker regularly performs in Broadway musical pits and regional orchestras. He emphasizes creating an environment where students can find their voice and delve into sound-based creativity. One of his teaching priorities is helping students understand the importance of breath control, essential for wind instrumentalists to produce beautiful tones. DeDecker believes that teaching students how to manage their breathing enhances their confidence. He also uses activities like dancing, clapping, and using sticks or mallets to help students grasp the abstract concept of rhythm through physical understanding.

“Fostering these skills is achieved by strengthening the body-mind connection,” DeDecker explains. For more information about the classes, visit jubilateconservatoryofmusic.org or contact Laya Field at [email protected] or via text/phone at 480-993-6147.
