Arizona high school athletic director dies

The Casa Grande Union High School District announced that Vista Grande High School’s athletic director, Louis Ramirez II, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 8.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The community is mourning the sudden loss of Louis Ramirez II, Vista Grande High School’s athletic director.

With over a dozen years of coaching experience, Ramirez was an invaluable part of the school district. He held a profound passion for his work, always striving to support his students and athletes. “Mr. Ramirez was deeply passionate about his work, always striving to do what was best for our students and the athletes he coached. His dedication and spirit will be profoundly missed,” the district stated.

Before his tenure at Vista Grande, Ramirez attended school in Casa Grande and coached football in Marana. He eventually returned to Pinal County to take on the role of athletic director. “I’ll always be a coach at heart, you can never take that out of me,” Ramirez shared in a 2023 interview with PinalCentral.

The school district has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding his death. The community remembers him as a figure of dedication and passion, whose influence extended far beyond the athletic field.
