Sha’Carri Richardson’s Earnings Revealed for Paris Olympics
The amount pales in comparison to the earnings Sha’Carri Richardson has reportedly made in endorsements.
PARIS, France — Sha’Carri Richardson is wrapping up her time in Paris with an impressive haul, including two Olympic medals. However, the financial reward may not match public expectations.
The American sprinting sensation secured a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter dash. She also anchored the U.S. team to gold in the 4×100-meter relay. These accomplishments earn her recognition but not a significant monetary windfall from the Olympics themselves.
Unlike some countries, the U.S. doesn’t directly pay athletes to compete in the Olympics. It does, however, provide bonuses for medal winners. This year marks a new initiative by World Athletics to also compensate gold medalists in track and field events at the Paris Olympics. It’s the first sport to receive such bonuses at the Summer Games.
For reference, U.S. medalists in Tokyo received $37,500 for gold, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze. Using those figures, Richardson stands to earn $60,000 for her silver and gold medals combined.
Richardson’s additional pay from World Athletics remains a bit ambiguous. While solo gold medalists in track and field can earn $50,000, relay teams share $50,000 among the members. If divided evenly among the four relay members, Richardson would receive an extra $12,500.
However, these sums are dwarfed by her endorsement deals. Reports indicate Richardson has a multi-year, multi-million-dollar sponsorship with Nike, although specific details are not publicly available.
For context, consider Simone Biles, another American Olympic icon. Biles is expected to earn $135,000 in bonuses for her three gold medals and one silver medal in Paris.
